English conversation courses
Is your goal to improve your English conversational skills? Or perhaps to read and discuss English literature, or to find out more about specific English-speaking cultures, whether your primary interest is the arts, politics or society in general? The English conversation course can be adapted to cater to all of these interests. Whatever the topic in focus, we will place a practical focus on expanding vocabulary, refreshing grammar and improving the accuracy and fluency of your English. Please indicate where you would like to focus:
- Reading circle (classics and contemporary literature in English)
- Politics, society and culture (e.g., English-speaking cultures around the world)
Format: Online on Zoom
Course duration: 45 minutes
Class size: Max 15 learners
Time: Tuesday and Sunday evenings, 19:30 – 20:15

Jane Dewhurst has been teaching English language and literature at various institutions of higher, further and secondary education for over 20 years. Originally from northwest England, Jane studied German and French at King’s College Cambridge. Then, she left the UK in 2000, first for Germany and then in 2006 for Zurich. She also completed an MA in Teaching English as a Foreign Language by distance learning. Now, Jane teaches language and cultural studies courses at the English Seminar of the University of Zurich, as well as foreign-language classes at Hottingen Grammar School (Kantonsschule Hottingen). Whatever her target group, she is passionate about helping students broaden their vocabulary and improve the accuracy and fluency of both their spoken and written English. Jane is married with three bilingual children (English and Swiss German) and enjoys jogging and reading in her free time. She is also a lapsed classical guitar player.
